Echoes (Solo Piano)

$0.00

This solo piano work was inspired by a poem written by one of my closest friends, Evelyn Huang.

What struck me was the encapsulating feeling of reminiscence t h e narrator faces in their daily life. The beginning figure in the piece represents the memory of someone recently lost. As the piece progresses, that feeling becomes bittersweet and more and more painful. Evie wrote this poem when she was studying abroad in Oxford and I tried to think about that while I was writing. The rain falling over the city as the fog rolls between brick buildings and cobblestone streets. I tried to write in a way that felt hopeful but also full of longing and homesickness. When I read this poem, the image of water really stood out to me. Mist that gently falls from the sky and lands on the trees and streets below, collecting in the cracks between cobblestones. The warm breath of the tea kettle and the fog that creeps in between brick buildings like an unwanted memory. This piece is about losing someone you love and having to go on with your life despite the pain and irrepressible memories.
